New Releases

Beastie Boys "Solid Gold Hits" (Capitol - This best-of retrospective collects some of the trio's biggest tracks on to one handy cd for more casual fans who didn't spring for the "Sounds Of Science" collection a few years back. There is a single cd version and also this special edition which comes with a bonus dvd of videos from their career)

Kate Bush "Aerial" (Columbia - The legendary and reclusive singer (who was signed to EMI in her teens) hasn't released an album since 1993's "The Red Shoes". She makes up for her absence with a 2-disc collection of new material)

Comet Gain "City Fallen Leaves" (Kill Rock Stars - 2nd full-length album on KRS from UK trio)

Neil Diamond "12 Songs" (Columbia - While he's been touring regularly, it's been awhile since old Neil has turned on the heartlight for a new album. Now, he's being praised for this new stripped down effort which he recorded with producer Rick Rubin)

Grizzly Bear "Horn Of Plenty" (Kanine - Debut album from lo-fi Brooklyn indie rockers who recorded most of the album in band member Christopher Bear's bedroom. This limited edition version comes with a bonus disc of remixes from the likes of Dntel, Soft Pink Truth, Solex, The Double, Alpha, and many more)

Bob Marley & the Wailers "Africa Unite: The Singles Collection" (Tuff Gong/Island - This year would have marked Marley's 60th birthday. This 20 track comp pays tribute with 17 of his biggest hits and includes 3 new cuts. 2 of those are remixes and 1 of them, "Slogans", is a previously unreleased track which his sons Stephen and Ziggy completed earlier this year with the help of Eric Clapton)

The Mars Volta "Scab Dates" (Universal - What's that you say? You like pretentious prog rock with 15+ plus minute songs with Latin & Spanish titles but you don't think it should be restrained just to the recording studio. Well, here's the release for you and just in time for the holidays! These cuts were recorded while the band was on tour from 2003-2005)

Various Artists "Music from the OC: Mix 5" (Warner Bros - Say what you will about the show, the music supervisors have brought a lot of attention to some very deserving bands through this Fox drama. On its 5th compilation, you get great cuts from Rogue Wave, LCD Soundsystem, Of Montreal, Stars, and a previously unreleased cover of Alphaville's "Forever Young" from Youth Group)

The Tragically Hip "Hipeponymous" (Universal Canada - US fans will want to jump on this limited edition import box set from our friends up North. You'll get 2 cd's of the band's greatest hits, their "That Night In Toronto" dvd, and a dvd featuring all 23 of the band's videos)

Explain This

Coldplay has dubbed the 2nd leg of their tour 'Talk the Tour'. The concept behind the site and tour make absolutely no sense at all. What the hell are they even talking about? But Coldplay is sooooo cool and innovative, so....

According to a source that attended last night's White Stripes show, Jack is now known as 'Three Quid' and Meg goes by 'Penny Farthing'. I don't claim to understand it, I'm just relaying the information. I don't think they even understand it.

!!! [yes that is the band name] announce a
Fall West Coast Tour.
