The Subways: [Great Scott] Boston

The Subways played their 1st show ever on the east coast 12.03.05 @ Great Scott in Allston Ma. Not only did they rock the sold out capacity crowd, but they are friendly as hell too.

We'll have some reviews of the show up this week.

Go out and get Youth for Eternity on Feb. 14th

The Twenty Twos opened the show and were great. I had never heard of the band before, but after meeting the bassist before the show, I was interested in hearing them. They didn't disappoint and are on the [wDMO///Radar] and should be on yours too.

If it sweetens the deal, the 3 chicks in the band are cute and the drummer goes 100% non stop. Its great to watch and even better on the ears. They play a great live show and really started the night off right.

This is a .torrent file. I've been posting most on the links as torrents since this is the best way to share music online. So, go get bittorrent and then read this. If you still cant get this stuff to work email me.

I'm making some mp3s of the new songs, but also going to see The Subways' first ever US show on the East Coast. So we'll see when I can get them up here. Hopefully tonight.

First Unitarian Church

I just wanted to express my love for this great small venue in Philadelphia. Its literally the basement of a church, which is weird at first, but its def. an experience. A religious one. haha.

Anyway, I've seen a few shows here in the past. Ted Leo/Yeah Yeahs, were the best. It simply rocked...in church.

So check out First Unitarian Church for upcoming shows, you'll enjoy it.

Or you can take my advice and see The Subways @ First Unitarian March 3rd

Do it, see the Subways. The Philadelphia show was just announced, so jump on it.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Secret Machines working on 'Ten Silver Drops', the follow-up to 2004's 'Now Here Is Nowhere'

Elvis Costello plans symphony tour and live cd

Britney Spears to replace Kelly Bundy in the lead role of a Broadway musical. Yes i'm serious.

ReBirth of Cool

-----
I've gotten a handful of e-mails asking what I'm most thankful for this Thanksgiving, and while most people spit out the usual answers--family, friends, health, Xbox 360--I decided I was going put some actual thought into answering your questions. After a couple days' reflection on myself and the current state of the world, I think this year I'm most thankful for *N Sync's cover of Kriss Kross' Christopher Cross' "Sailing."
The fact that it's a 1998 cover of a 1981 song just proves how timeless and relevant this masterpiece is. While popular opinion suggests Cross used "sailing" as a metaphor for suicide, I like to believe he really was searching for paradise, tranquility and serenity--but it wasn't until *N Sync covered the song did I feel this way.
"Sailing" being performed by five young men showed me how music can bring people of different backgrounds and cultures together. If that song can make two Aryans, a greasy Dago, a dreadlocked Jamaican and that guy who looks like Screech from Saved By The Bell put their differences behind them and join together--imagine what it could do for world peace.
This Thanksgiving weekend, when your family is gathered around the table discussing what to be thankful for, play *N Sync's "Sailing" and tell them you're thankful for the power of music. If everyone who reads this message passes it on to one or two other people, who do the same--global conflict and suffering will be a thing of the past.
"Just a dream and the wind to carry me
And soon I will be free..."

New Releases

Beastie Boys "Solid Gold Hits" (Capitol - This best-of retrospective collects some of the trio's biggest tracks on to one handy cd for more casual fans who didn't spring for the "Sounds Of Science" collection a few years back. There is a single cd version and also this special edition which comes with a bonus dvd of videos from their career)

Kate Bush "Aerial" (Columbia - The legendary and reclusive singer (who was signed to EMI in her teens) hasn't released an album since 1993's "The Red Shoes". She makes up for her absence with a 2-disc collection of new material)

Comet Gain "City Fallen Leaves" (Kill Rock Stars - 2nd full-length album on KRS from UK trio)

Neil Diamond "12 Songs" (Columbia - While he's been touring regularly, it's been awhile since old Neil has turned on the heartlight for a new album. Now, he's being praised for this new stripped down effort which he recorded with producer Rick Rubin)

Grizzly Bear "Horn Of Plenty" (Kanine - Debut album from lo-fi Brooklyn indie rockers who recorded most of the album in band member Christopher Bear's bedroom. This limited edition version comes with a bonus disc of remixes from the likes of Dntel, Soft Pink Truth, Solex, The Double, Alpha, and many more)

Bob Marley & the Wailers "Africa Unite: The Singles Collection" (Tuff Gong/Island - This year would have marked Marley's 60th birthday. This 20 track comp pays tribute with 17 of his biggest hits and includes 3 new cuts. 2 of those are remixes and 1 of them, "Slogans", is a previously unreleased track which his sons Stephen and Ziggy completed earlier this year with the help of Eric Clapton)

The Mars Volta "Scab Dates" (Universal - What's that you say? You like pretentious prog rock with 15+ plus minute songs with Latin & Spanish titles but you don't think it should be restrained just to the recording studio. Well, here's the release for you and just in time for the holidays! These cuts were recorded while the band was on tour from 2003-2005)

Various Artists "Music from the OC: Mix 5" (Warner Bros - Say what you will about the show, the music supervisors have brought a lot of attention to some very deserving bands through this Fox drama. On its 5th compilation, you get great cuts from Rogue Wave, LCD Soundsystem, Of Montreal, Stars, and a previously unreleased cover of Alphaville's "Forever Young" from Youth Group)

The Tragically Hip "Hipeponymous" (Universal Canada - US fans will want to jump on this limited edition import box set from our friends up North. You'll get 2 cd's of the band's greatest hits, their "That Night In Toronto" dvd, and a dvd featuring all 23 of the band's videos)

Coldplay has dubbed the 2nd leg of their tour 'Talk the Tour'. The concept behind the site and tour make absolutely no sense at all. What the hell are they even talking about? But Coldplay is sooooo cool and innovative, so....

wDMO State of The Union Address

First off, I'd like to welcome all the new people who have been coming over to wDMO. This is a place dedicated to all things rock. Alternative/Indie/Garage. These days terrestrial radio over looks anything good, and plays crap all day. I cant stand it, if you can then go away. Just kidding, but seriously this is a place for news and reviews of the up and coming/pioneers. Eventually we'll figure out why we are doing this but for now that's it. We like rock and its dyyyyyyyying.

Ok...a few more things

#1 I post the news that is current and relevant. The Strokes are relevant, and they have a new album coming out soon. Each day a song gets leaked, so it gets posted. This is by no means a Strokes fan site. I am a fan, and they just happen to be making some waves this week.

#2 As i have said before things are going on behind the scenes, it looks like crap now but be patient. When this gets worked out everyone will be happy.

We want this to be about stuff that is new and interesting, before corporate America gets its hands on it and ruins it for all of us. Some new bands are great, some suck. That's the same thing with older bands. I think that in time you can sort out the diamonds from the coal, that is what I want this to be about. Interaction would be nice, I'd like to know what goes on in other rock scenes across the globe. But all I can say is that if you like the content 1% then stay tuned. I have no idea what I'm doing anyway, so we can ride this out together.

#3 I'll be doing a weekly podcast, prob. an hour long. Any requests will be considered. You can listen by finding the post below that has a mini media player in it. its orange and green, just push play.

Thank you and have a nice evening.

JuiceBox Video Shoot

Remember last week when i gave you all the information nessicary to be a huge Mtv Star?
Here is one mans account on how he did exactly that.
--------

STORY TIME!!

ok, so on wednesday of last week i was web surfing at work (shock!) and i noticed there was a casting call for the new strokes video (for 'juicebox'), amongst '70 year old socialites' and 'cab drivers' they were looking for real life gay couples who were willing to AGGRESSIVELY MAKE OUT ON CAMERA. i considered if i should send in a photo of billy and me...oh, for about .23 seconds.

knowing full well that this posting was all over the internet i figured our chances of hearing back were slim to none. then on thursday morning i get an e-mail... from 'steve from the casting company'. he wants to see billy and i because we are perfect for the video, but we must DRESS EAST VILLAGE HIPSTER, he emphasized that about 7 times. i scream and consequently get awkward looks from my co-workers. i then proceed to tell them that grandpa won the lottery. they need not know about my 15 minutes yet!

anyway, i consult wit' ma man and we decide to go to the shoot. we get there just in time to see the 70 year old socialites. i've never seen so many women who resemble joan rivers in my LIFE! nearly 20 women are auditioning for this role... one is worse than the next... we're talking big costume jewelry, 6 inch heels and piles and piles of make-up. billy and i laugh, as do the other fags waiting for the 'gay couple shoot'.

next up is the cab driver role. not much to speak of. about a dozen chubby balding white guys getting their polaroids taken. billy and i and the other fags laugh again.

then, our turn!

they call our name and we shimmy down the aisle, and get our pictures taken to attach to our sheet we had to fill out (which included age, weight, height, eye color, agency affiliation). i of course, answered honestly, 19, 125, sky blue and elite modeling. GOTCHA! seriously though, we tell the truth.

there are 5 groups of gays. actually only 2 were 'real couples' while the others met right there and were ready to make out on que. sad or hot, i'm not sure.

we're the 3rd couple in line.

we finally get in and are sooo excited!

the director and his people are in the room as are the dudes videotaping the whole thing.

they tell us to literally start making out 'as if we were single and leaving the hole drunk at 3am'. for those out of the loop, the hole is one of the sluttiest gay bars in nyc. i think you can literally get clamidya by sitting on the barstool. but anyway, we're like, err, ok.

we back into opposite corners and tear at each other.

i'm talking moans, ripping at each other's clothes, throwing each other against the wall and touching everywhere. after about 30 seconds, they say thank you and we leave.

at this point i am out of breath, shirtless and weirded out. i feel like i was just in a G rated porno. ok, maybe pg-13.

as i anxiously await a call... an hour goes by, a night goes by, a day goes by.

i realize finally that we are not getting the call back. grrrr

i would just like to know how much more aggressively we were supposed to make out!

when you see the new video on mtv, please throw something at the screen when you see 'the gay couple', knowing that it very well coulda been your musicslut, matt.

sigh.

-----
We sound like we're full of shit, but check the facts....we aren't.

You Can Use an IPod to Move Music

Apple doesn't make it easy to employ your IPod to duplicate your music collection on both your work and home PCs, but you can do it. If you have a Windows machine, simply plug in your IPod, find it listed in Windows Explorer, and make sure your machine can view hidden files.
