I haven't been around a lot this week, so this is like one big update.
-I know that I rip on Jet, but who doesn't nowadays. That's what you get when you try to pawn off classic rock cover songs as your own, TAKE THAT! First Pitchfork, now real reporters.
-Google buys YouTube for $1.5 Billion
YouTube really lets people get their creativity out there. Online Video and digital music sites like MySpace[MUSIC], Napster-types, P2P, and blogs really help to spread the word about good music. Creativity is running wild and now it has the channels to hit the consumer. Its weird but the Internet is to present day rap and rock like the 'Underground' was the movement in the 60's, 70's, and 80's. Right? or not.
-Beck's new album was barred from the UK Charts because of the DVD and stickers included.
He actually made crazy lo-fi videos for all of the songs on the new album.

The Features recently put out a new EP titled Contrast. If you haven't heard the Features before, I suggest going out and getting Exhibit A, which is great. One of the best of 2004.
They have run across hard times recently after getting dropped from Universial after refusing to record a song for a commercial. Its amazing how shitty this Industry can be. Check out the Contrast EP and show some support while they look for a new home.

The Hard Lessons
Normally when I read other websites I feel like they are hyping up the 'Next Big Thing' almost every week just to hype something up. Sometimes they really are good, but lets be realistic no matter how much good music is out there, you aren't going to find it everyday. I'm not dissing anyone,I'm just saying; for me atleast, It's hard to sort though all of it.
On to something I think you'll all like. The Hard Lessons

Little Steven's Underground Garage Festival
Little Steven (Steven Van Zandt) from the E-Street Band and Silvio from the Sopranos has his own show on regular radio and a full channel on Sirius, Underground Garage. He takes the Garage on the road with the Underground Garage Festival, coming to AC and Philly on Friday and Sat.
I've been to one of these, and let me tell you, its a great time. No matter if you've heard of any of the bands you'll still have a better time here then you would doing whatever the hell you have planed. Go Go Girls dance during all sets and every band on tour rocks it. Its a nice mix of rock bands from the last 3 decades as well, so check it out.
The Doors for the Borgata show don't even open til 10:00pm and the show starts at 11:30pm, so you can head to AC and make a long night of it. Party!

ACL in Review
Austin City Limits. What a Festival!
The only bad part about this weekend was the HEAT. Almost 100 degrees all 3 days, and out in the sun it felt like 120. Other than that they put on a great Festival. Everyone out in Texas was so nice. If they held a Fest like this back East, in excessive heat like this, I can almost guarantee there would be fights and basically organized chaos. Not here, everyone made this weekend an great experience.
BIG THANKS to:
-ACL Festival
-AT&T (2 stages and the Digital Oasis offered internet access, college and pro football coverage, and AIR CONDITIONING all weekend long)
-The Library on 6th St. (Great Tunes after the festival, cheap drinks, and they welcomed NJ with open arms)
-The Aquarium on Sixth (Water filled walls and $13 for 2 Sapphire Tonics and 2 beers. Game Over.)
-Latitude 30 ($2 Jager Bombs!? Are you serious? That's all I remember, Yes this place is a GEM)
Highlights:
-Ben Kweller's nose bleed during his set that he plugged with a tampon
-Kings of Leon play 3 new songs
-MUSE play an AMAZING set (my first MUSE experience, so I might be bias)
-Tom Petty plays during a classic Texas rain
-TV on the Radio=really good
-AT&T Digital Oasis Tent-AC and Football games on Sat and Sunday saved a lot of people from the heat and football withdrawal.
-Wolf Parade play a good set despite their bassist missing the trip due to Ecoli
-Ben Harper played well and did some nice covers of Neil Young
-Damian Marley played some of his Dad's songs, which was unexpected since I'd never seem him before either
-The Raconteurs shot down any negative hype brought on by the horrible editing of the MTV Awards, by putting on Zeppelin-esqe set.
Kings of Leon
The Kings of Leon came out just as the sun started to set on Day 2. The wind picked up and cooled thing off a bit, and the Kings got things rolling. They played 3 new songs (Charmer, My Party, On Call) and then ran though songs off of both albums. Great set, and everyone seemed to really enjoy them. The new songs are a huge step up for them as far as musicianship. You want to hear what I'm talking about?
Rock this out. And keep in mind, is the audio that is the best part about these, now the video.

Austin City Limits Festival
Real quick update from the festival. AT&T has a great tent set up with internet access and 4 flat screens with college football and NFL on Saturday and Sunday. and its air conditioned. Its been almost 100 degrees here but the bands have been great.

Damian Marley, Kings of Leon, Ted Leo, Willie Nelson, Wolf Parade, The Raconteurs were all great. I know I'm missing tons of info but I gotta run.

Ted Leo and the Pharmacists
As I'm getting ready to depart for Texas, I've been listening to as much music from Austin City Limits Bands as I can...handle. Kings of Leon in San Antonio and at the fest excites me, not only because of the long history between WDMO and the Kings, but because its about that time when they debut some new songs.
I was looking at the schedule and realized, I forgot TED LEO! If you don't already know this (1) Ted Leo is from New Jersey, REPRESENT! and (2) his music is great. And as far as I'm concerned he puts on a great live show. So much energy, its almost the only way to listen to Ted Leo and the Rx. The studio stuff is good, but the live energy is GREAT. When I listened to them for the first time it convinced me to see then down at the Church in Philadelphia, but the live show made me a fan.
I was going to share some MP3's for you to get a taste of Ted and the Rx, and as I was looking for a few tidbits, I see that he has tons music for you on his website. Way to spread it around Ted. Its great when bands try to get their music out there like that and realize the positive impact.
